DIPLOMA IN CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE
Significantly enhance your ability to effectively treat a wide range of diseases through our quality lectures and supported study with the leading practitioner-researchers in the UK
The White Crane Academy is providing a ground-breaking and highly practical course in Chinese herbal medicine. Our lectures are a mixture of face to face and online. The face to face lectures are held at the International College of Oriental Medicine (ICOM), East Grinstead, but it is possible to attend all the lectures online via Zoom.
We also conduct weekly online clinical supervisions and this is proving to be very positive to our students for discussing their cases and issues relating to clinical practice.
Note that if you are interested but do not have a background in Traditional Chinese Medicine, we also run a TCM foundation course.
TRAIN TO PRACTICE
Our 3 year course covers herbs, formulae and supervised clinical practice – in his article How long does it take to grow a herbalist?, Andrew Flower discusses the course and explains how it differs from some of the shorter courses out there.
Our diploma course in Chinese herbal medicine is accredited by the European Herbal & Traditional Medicine Practitioners Association (EHTPA). Notable benefits of qualifying from an accredited course include wider recognition of your qualification and eligibility for membership of the RCHM.
FANTASTIC ONLINE TEACHERS
We have assembled a first class team of highly experienced practitioners, lecturers and experts, many of whom hold PhDs in different aspects of Chinese medicine and other related specialities. This means each teaching session is delivered by a subject matter expert.
HOW WILL THE COURSE BE ASSESSED?
There will be regular tests and assessments in the first and second years of the course to encourage learning of the basic herbs and formulae. Examinations will also take place at the end of Years 1 and 2. In the third year of the course students will be evaluated on the basis of their final 6 month clinical rotation plus a dissertation exploring an area of CHM they have a special interest in.
IS THE COURSE ACCREDITED AND WILL I BE ENTITLED TO JOIN A PROFESSIONAL REGISTER?
The course is accredited by the EHTPA. All graduates will be eligible to apply for entry to the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine, the lead CHM professional body in the UK.
WHAT IS THE CURRENT LEGAL RIGHT OF HERBALISTS TO PRACTICE IN THE UK?
Herbal medicine is protected in UK law by Regulation 3 of The Human Medicines Regulation Act 2012, which allows herbal practitioners the right to practice and prescribe herbal medicines on the basis of a one-to-one consultation. In recent years the availability of herbs over the counter and without a consultation has been limited by the introduction of the Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive but this in no way affects our right as practitioners to treat patients.
WHAT ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS?
We will accept students who have graduated from an accredited acupuncture training course. In exceptional circumstances, where a student can demonstrate a sound knowledge of Chinese medicine theory and a competent understanding of Western medicine we will consider applicants without previous experience of acupuncture.
All students will be asked to attend an interview for the course. For those who live far from London this can be done via Zoom. This will allow you to ask any questions and also give us the opportunity to discuss the course in more detail and to make sure it is the right training for you.
HOW DO I APPLY?
We are always happy to discuss our courses so you have plenty of opportunity to understand what we offer and whether it is the best thing for you.
Once you have made the decision to apply, you will find our application form here.
